Update from: 02/15/05
Mark & Samantha are happy to be home and we are fast making them a part of our previously little family. We haven't gone anywhere with all five of us yet, maybe this week we'll take a practice run around town to see how it goes. Elizabeth will be thrilled to keep tabs on the little people in the back seat; she's very empathetic and often lets us know what everyone is feeling and doing.
Both Mark and Samantha are working through some jaundice; as you may recall, Elizabeth was re-admitted to the hospital for it shortly after she was born. We've been doing everything we can to prevent these two from going back and it looks like we are in the home stretch. We have some light blankets that we are wrapping them up in and doing some aggressive feeding to move all the "yuckies" (Elizabeth's term) through their system.
As for Teresa and I, well, we are feeding them every three hours and it takes about 45-60 min to feed them both; you do the rest of the math. Every parent knows the first couple weeks are all about fluid management and sleep deprivation; this is certainly proving true with these two.
Elizabeth is really a champ with this whole thing. If we aren't careful we'll miss all the new things she's doing like: Counting to 10 in English and Spanish (thanks to Aunt Angie), saying her ABC's (with some prodding), creating her own little sentences telling us what she wants to do and where she wants to go. The look of concentration on her face as she thinks about what words to say is truly amazing to watch. When she comes home from daycare she always wants to go check on Mark and Samantha; we think they have a pretty good big sister watching over them...
